There aren’t too many combination rooftop bar / microbreweries in town. In fact, there’s one. Sitting atop Eataly, the Italian-themed mega food market helmed by Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich, this casual hotspot overlooking Madison Square Park and the Flatiron is a hit with groups of young finance types and visiting family alike. It’s also an ideal spot to catch the Pride Parade away from the crowds. Partnered with Dogfish Head brewmaster Sam Calagione and others, Birreria brews up unfiltered, unpasteurized, naturally-carbonated cask ales and pours them (along with top-of-the-line craft draughts and bottles from around the world). You’ll also find classic cocktails and a solid mini-menu of Italian amaros and grappas. A glass enclosure and space heaters ensure year-round seating (which fills up fast: Reservations are recommended). Italian dishes, like Cotechino Con Peperoncini, and a list of Italian and locally produced sodas round out the artisanal experience.
