The Cutting Room is back. The original closed early in 2009 but now it’s back on the scene with a much bigger space for drinking and carousing and chilling out to live music, located a few blocks north of its old location. The new bar and entertainment venue, co-owned by Mr Big himself, the actor Chris Noth (who can often be spotted in the bar) along with Steve Walter. This multi-level venue showcases the very best in live entertainment. There’s a supper club vibe to the operation, with a grand red-curtained main stage area on which the acts perform as you eat and drink. It’s a theatrical and colourful space, spread over two levels, with Jimmi Hendrix on the wall, looking down from above, and a sleek curved wooden bar. The line-up is incredibly varied, featuring everything from burlesque to jazz to funk to big-name musicians, but there’s also something old fashioned about the operation, which is hugely appealing. There’s a more than decent selection of the drinks beers, spirits and a few cocktails – to choose from and the bar menu includes cheese and charcuterie sharing boards as well as ‘food truck style’ trays of sliders, meatballs and kamikaze fries with wasabi mayo (though not all together).
