The Ten Bells
New York City-Lower East Manhattan
May 11, 2018
There’s a whole lot to like about this romantic and super-cosy wine bar with its offering of organic wines and small plates for sharing. It’s an atmospheric spot, all dark wood and tin ceiling, which takes its name from the historic (and notorious) Ten Bells pub in east London, a place prominent in Jack the Ripper mythology. The wine list is dense with organic and natural wines, but the servers are super-knowledgeable about their stock and happy to help if you find the choice a bit daunting. There are some 16 wines by the glass to choose from, most at very reasonable prices. There are also around 50 bottle to explore including wines from Morocco and other unusual places. There’s also a range of decent bar snacks to fill your belly, a selection of tapas, seafood and charcuterie. including a selection of oysters and tartares, the perfect thing to pair with a glass of something crisp and complex, a wine to savour.
