New York has embraced the hidden and illicit. The best new bars to spring up on the scene are clandestine in nature, concealed, hush-hush. Take Bathtub ...

Bathtub Gin, has been generating a much well-deserved buzz with gin lovers who like to drink their favourite tipple in a sophisticated speakeasy environment. The bar is popular with a diverse range of customers from artists and bohemians, to business folk looking for a stiff post-meeting drink.

The bar is located in the chic district of Chelsea and from the outside appears to be nothing more than an unassuming coffee shop. However, step inside and step back in time with the dark woods and vintage fittings. The star of the décor is the gargantuan golden bathtub which sits majestically in the centre of the room. Leather-bound menus, exposed brick walls and plush Damask fabrics all coalesce to create a simple, but perennially cool, venue in Bathtub Gin. The 1920s is applied to the smallest of details, including the waiter’s outfits, creating a wholly engaging immersive experience.

Bathtub Gin’s cocktail menu is the major draw for drinkers who flock to this Manhattan favourite. Edinburgh Gin, Gunpowder Irish Gin and Hendrick’s are just a few of the varieties which feature on the menu in the extensive range of cocktails. They also offer numerous variations on the classic G & T, such as Tanqueray 10 with Tom’s Organic Tonic and Botanist Gin with Jack Rudy Tonic. Although the emphasis is on this diverse spirit, they also serve a selection of wines and beers for those who want an alternative choice. An array of charcuterie boards and plates of grilled steak and tacos are served to provide a perfect accompaniment to the expertly mixed drinks.
