Hidden behind a (semi-)secret entrance this plush lounge crafting Prohibition-era cocktails is perhaps one of the most romantic bars in New York City. The second bar to bear this name, this handsome space at stylish modern boutique hotel, The William, is entered through their English-themed restaurant The Shakespeare. It’s a speakeasy-style venue, spread throughout two rooms, with plenty of cosy nooks and crannies in which to settle with a cocktail and a companion. Dotted with attractive high-backed chairs, the bar is intimate with discreet but efficient table service; when you’re ready for another round of drinks, you just call the servers over via a call button that sits above your table. The cocktails are as creative as they are at the original iconic Raines Law Room in Chelsea, these are the drinks which deservedly made that bar a big hit. Fresh ingredients abound, and we’re particularly taken with their approach to the Old Fashioned, which lets you pick your own favourite combo of ingredients. So ring that doorbell and ready yourself for an atmospheric night of carefully crafted drinks in an elegantly designed setting.
