Aldo Sohm Wine Bar
New York City-Midtown Manhattan
May 11, 2018
Owned by the same people behind legendary fish restaurant Le Bernardin, still widely regarded as one of the best restaurants in the world, sommelier Aldo Sohm’s eponymous wine bar is a very stylish space indeed. The room is chic and comfortable, if not hugely contemporary, it’s full of elegant square sofa and colourful wall art, feeling a bit like a very well appointed living room. Obviously the wine list is gloriously complied and wide-ranging, full of exciting choices. Staff know their stuff impeccably – would you expect anything less? – and the food menu is also well worth diving into. The house selection of charcuterie is a thing of beauty in and of itself. The house-made tuna-in-a-can tartine, the foie gras lollipops and the baked cauliflower with chicken salt are all examples of their skilled yet playful approach to the art of the bar snack, designed to pair perfectly with a well-chosen glass of wine.
