New York City-Midtown Manhattan
May 11, 2018
It’s not often you find a Midtown hotel bar with a cocktail menu curated by one of the world’s top bartenders. The seasonally updated menu at Bar 54 arrives to your table courtesy of Julie Reiner (owner of Clover Club and Leyenda in Brooklyn). The sleek, modernist space, 54 floors above Times Square, has the feel of a wealthy designer’s personal den, with various seating options (comfy club chairs, shared tables, sofas) and an outdoor terrace with million-dollar views of the city. Though it can get busy on weekend nights with a young, pseudo-nightclub crowd, in general it’s a hidden gem equally suited for post-theater date night drinking or pre-dinner meet-ups. Any visiting family members you bring here might be shocked at the prices (cocktails run about $25), but impressed with the space and views. Drinks feature house-made syrups, fresh herbs and fruits and (when possible), local ingredients. Though the lineup changes, you might find The Pink Lady (gin, bonded applejack, lemon juice, grenadine, egg whites) or a Little Figgy (cachaça, white port, lemon juice, cinnamon, fig jam, orange bitters). Small bites like flatbread pizzas with truffled mushrooms, round out the experience. NOTE: Guests of the Hyatt Times Square enjoy priority seating on busy nights. Reservations are recommended.
