DB Bistro Moderne
New York City-Midtown Manhattan
May 11, 2018
Midtown’s recently renovated DB Bistro Moderne part of Daniel Boulud’s sizeable gastro-empire now boasts a smart new bar area and puts more of a focus on the liquid treats on offer. The new bar offers a seasonal cocktail menu alongside a list of fine French wine and provides good reason to revisit this deservedly popular spot. It’s a sharp looking venue, with a classic New York feel. Large mirrors line the walls above creamy banquettes and the tables boast white linen cloths. It’s not the most contemporary of looks, sure, not very on-trend (exposed brickwork, where art thou?) but it suits the old school mood of the space. The wine cellar is well stocked with decent French stuff and there’s a wide range of wines available by the glass, including some rare gems, thanks to their Coravin system. The food menu is also French in influence, featuring dishes like escargot fricassee, coq au vin and leek vinaigrette. The epic DB burger is famous with good reason: a sirloin burger with braised short rib and foie gras and truffle served in a parmesan bun, and there’s always a selection of dishes made with market fresh produce.
