New York City-Midtown Manhattan
May 11, 2018
Being the house bar of New York’s uber-swish Mandarin Oriental hotel, this is predictably stylish affair. It’s not an in-your-face glam, still in its own way this compact low-lit bar is positively dripping with an air of exclusivity and affluence. The staff, in their stylish Asian outfits, are efficiency personified and there are plush leather booths from which to peruse the hefty wine list (some 500 bottles and growing). The crowd is a mix of hotel guests, diners spilling out of the Asiate restaurant for a post-dinner drink, and locals in the mood for a superbly executed cocktail. As it’s on the 35th floor, you’ll want to drift over to the adjacent lounge area and take in the amazing views of the city.
