Monarch Rooftop Lounge
New York City-Midtown Manhattan
May 11, 2018
The latest venture from Ric Addison and Stephen Daly, the team behind the Ava Rooftop Lounge, boasts eighteenth-floor views and an exciting drinks list. Those views are reason for a visit alone, the Empire State Building looming over the Midtown night spot. The space is ideal for balmy nights but even if the weather’s not playing ball, it’s still worth checking out. The stylish space is light and airy, an exercise in Scandinavian-chic, attractive outside and in, with delicate sculptural light fittings, comfy, well-upholstered sofas, bare brickwork and lots of pale wood and glass. The terrace, with its curls of topiary, is a superb spot for watching the sun go down on the city with a cocktail or a glass of fizz. The drinks list makes a feature of potent small-batch gin and their house-infused cinnamon bourbon. The signature Monarch cocktail is a delicate floral affair, a well-balanced, prettily presented mix of gin, St. Germain, pink grapefruit juice and lavender bitters, while the Indigo Duskywing Collins blends bourbon,Crßme de Mure, lemon juice, soda and blackberry. The tequila-based Butterfly Effect packs a jalapeno kick and they also serve a small selection of tasty bar snacks alongside a range of desserts from Bindi chocolates. Good coffee too, always a plus. And that view did we mention that view?
