New York City-Midtown Manhattan
May 11, 2018
Subway Inn is a classic New York dive which has managed to cling to life even though their landlord wanted them out of their Midtown East locale after well over 70 years in business. This is the kind of bar in which Frank Sinatra used to drink, it was a place of history and character. Now it’s relocated and reopened at Second Ave. and 60th St., a couple of blocks from its original location and has been, we are told, “virtually replicated.” The same neon sign hangs above the new premises, the Salinas family are still running things and the drinks are still flowing freely. There are booths in which to hang out with friends and everything’s a little cleaner and shinier than it was in the old premises, so that’s a win right there.
