The Heath is the latest venue to open within the sprawling, ever evolving space known as the McKittrick Hotel. UK theatre company Punchdrunk are world builders and Sleep No More, their immersive adventurous reworking of Macbeth, with a Hitchcokian twist, has become a cultural phenomenon like no other. It’s more an experience than a show, with numerous eating and drinking spaces opening up to cater to the crowds who come, keen to explore the building’s hidden corners and chase those fabled one-on-one encounters. The Heath is as opulent as you’d expect. Operating two rotations a night, you can either come early and enjoy dinner and drinks, or sidle along later for cocktails and live music. Punchdrunk are known for the richness of their design and this space is true to that, decked out like an Orient-Express carriage, complete with curtains, wood-panelling, ivy green leather booths and an elegant curved ceiling, performers occasionally wondering in to interact with you as you sip. A jazz band kicks off as the night winds on and the dancing goes on until the small hours of the morning. The drinks are as creative as you’d hope and they offer a house punch (appropriately enough) which rotates daily.
