The Rooftop at Pod 39
New York City-Midtown Manhattan
May 11, 2018
The Pod Hotels are popular for providing a cosy and stylish yet inexpensive accommodation option in a city that can often weigh heavy on the pocket. The rooftop lounge at the new Pod 39 is something else though, a hit with tourists and locals both. Accessed via a glass elevator the space shares the same bright, attractive design as the hotels, all ivy-clad brick archways and strings of garden fairy lights, terracotta benches and bright green Mexican tile-topped tables. The bar stocks a wide range of specialty tequilas and there’s a Mexican inspired cocktail list, where tequila also features heavily. Their drinks are fun and fruity, perfect for al fresco drinking: there’s chili-salted watermelon in the Sandia Trio, cinnamon, vanilla bean and orange blossom in the Fly By Night, and they also serve a range of cocktails designed for sharing including The Colada, a refreshing blend of coconut, pineapple, lime and rum, served by the pitcher. Food-wise, we’re talking superior tacos from April Bloomfield. Think pastrami and pig-ear and other cool, contemporary ingredients. The views are glorious too, with the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings glinting prettily in the background, and the bar as a whole makes for a hip summer hangout in a part of town that was crying out for a place like this.
