New York City-Outer New York

Technically not in New York, but close enough for us, the Kolo Klub sells itself as the first of its kind, a craft cocktail bar in Hoboken. Based on the second floor of Pilsener Haus & Biergarten, it’s a smart, spacious and stylish cocktail spot in the spiritual home of the sports bar. The décor is masculine but elegant, with lots of soft brown leather, plush velvet sets and warm wood flooring, giving a gentle Velvet Revolution theming to the venue if not to the drinks list (though, to be fair, there is a Velvet Revolution on the cocktail list if you want to try oneß-) Nicely laid out so that even when it’s busy (and it does get busy) you’re not crammed in on top of your neighbours, it’s the perfect venue to chill out over a cocktail or several and is the ideal spot for a group night out or a more intimate date all those couches are perfect for snuggling up on. Their signature drink mixes bourbon with cherry liqueur and honey while the Prague 36 is a blend of bison grass vodka, lemon, apple puree and a splash of sparkling wine. The cocktails are pleasingly complex they haven’t gone for the safe, fruity and sweet options and the venue as a whole is a very welcome addition to the neighbourhood. Open from Thursdays through weekends, it holds regular DJ nights and you can even take a Koko cocktail class if you want to learn some of the tricks of the trade. Billed as an events space, the Koko Klub also does a brisk trade in private parties.
