Outside of Kyoto, only 20 minutes by train is Bar K in Osaka. It might be on the small side, but this popular bar is certainly not short on character. Bar K has the feel of a classic American Bar, refined, understated, the attention focused very much on the creative drinks. Details matter here, just look at how the bar tenders handle ice for proof of this point.
The top bar is very well stocked – they have a particularly wide range of Japanese whiskeys – and their cocktails are impeccably executed. Precision and care are invested in the creation of even the most ostensibly simple of drinks and the atmosphere, while never stuffy, is suitable reverent.
What their peers say
“When we did a tour of Japan bars earlier on this year, this bar was one of the two best that we encountered. The authentic bar was full of character and was in the style of a classic American Bar, the bar staff were extremely polished and the drinks were served with precision. The bar boasted a vast selection of Scotch and Japanese Whisky’s. We had a round of cocktails and a round of G&T’s – served by the owner himself, Mr. Michihiko – and even the G&T’s were extraordinary!” Sean Muldoon of The Dead Rabbit, New York City
