Albertine Cafe and Bar
May 11, 2018
Commanding excellent views of harbor and Akershus fortress, Albertine does a fine line in Norwegian oysters, and the bards have sung of its hamburgers in the sagas. Its fetching decor with black walls, scores of mirrors and hundreds of peculiar objet d’art will have you reaching for the word ‘Quaint’ faster than you can say Henrik Ibsen. The varied menu features some unusual dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner – all for a reasonable price. The Cafe has a pithy motto, a quotation from Hans Jßger, a Bohemian writer and anarchist living in latter part of the 19th Century when Oslo was called Christiania: “If you have no money, you must at least eat well…..” Perhaps it loses something in translation, but one could quite easily substitute ‘drinks’ for “eats'” for there are some impressive wine and spirits to be sampled as well.
