Paris-Bastille and the Marais

We’re very fond of the Bottle Shop. Part of the Cheap Blonde family of bars along with the Lizard Lounge and the nearby Red House, it’s the kind of hip, chilled out spot where you can relax with a cocktail or two long into the night. The décor is serviceable rather than striking. There’s a curved wooden bar in the centre of the room, grab a perch here if you can; the bartenders know their stuff and the drinks are on the money. They do decent Manhattans and Margaritas (as well as some fairly lethal sounding shots, if it turns into one of those nights). We’re more likely to stick with a crisp Marini or a smooth Amaretto Sour. Music’s also part of the appeal and there’s a cool soundtrack of indie, rock and electro, spun by the house DJs, to a happy crowd of locals and the occasional in-the-know out-of-towner. You might not think it but this is one of the best places in the city of lights to score brunch on a Sunday. They make a mean breakfast burrito, a full fry-up or and a tasty lox bagel, much more of a range than you typically get in Paris (even beans on toast).
