Paris-Bastille and the Marais

Painted a bubbly bright red on the outside, and running over with boisterous times on the outside, Le Gamin in Paris is the epitome of what a rum and whiskey bar should be. It doesn’t take long after entering Le Gamin’s doors to figure out that they do things a little differently, as the decor is as bold as it is eclectic. Shades of red are splashed seemingly everywhere (curtains, chairs, and walls for starters) contrasting strikingly with one funky yellow wall adorned with an antique mirror and the chunks of rustic stone behind the bar. We also love the swinging saloon-style doors attached to the bar itself and the gorgeous mosaic that lines it, made from mostly red tiles of course. The whole ensemble gives off a rustic ‘Espana’ vibe, and we love it, but it’s the goodies on the shelves behind the aforementioned bar that are the reason Le Gamin has landed on our pages. At last count, Le Gamin was home to over 300 rums and whiskeys from around the world, including many prestigious labels, and they pour them into a set of superb cocktails. They create everything with serious skill here, from vintage old fashioneds and daiquiris to modern mixology wonders, but don’t think for a second they won’t stick a tequila-flavored beer upside down in a cocktail, because they also love to have a good time here, too.
