The team behind the acclaimed Candelaria and Glass have opened am exciting third venture, La Mary Celeste, a venue in the Marais with a subtle nautical theme that concentrates on aperitif style cocktails and oysters a winning combination if ever there was one. Named after the merchant ship that was famously found abandoned in mysterious circumstances in the late nineteenth century, it’s a far livelier space than its name might suggest. The room is lovely, bright and airy, with big windows and a large octagonal bar. The kitchen serves Asian-inspired small plates as well as oysters. Try their kimchee if you want an unusual bar snack. The cocktail list is inventive and full of tasty tipples, like the Rain Dog, a blend of bourbon and citrus. There are a selection of Brooklyn Brewery beers on tap and intriguing list of natural wines. Oysters are listed by region and they even offer an oyster happy hour deal, something of which we approve, when these beauties are a mere 1euro apiece. A vintage turntable fills the place with old school rock tunes and the whole place pulses with an indisputably hip, yet pleasantly laid-back vibe.
