Name one of the late lamented James Brown’s saxaphone players? One such was Maceo Parker, after whom this elegant bar is named. And what a place it is! Points of interest include its vast 18th Century mirrors, wing-back chairs and scarlet walls. The Chef certainly can tell an onion from an aubergine, and the sommelier could write a 10, 000 word monogram on practically every wine on earth. There are a number of handsome rooms which one can hire too. The splendid Salle Palais Royal with its Louis Quinze chairs is case in point. No visit to Maceo would be complete without at least feasting one’s eyes on the truly regal ballroom, La Salle de Bal, a tour de force of Second Empire grandeur with its vast mirrors, and remarkable stucco work.
