What is an Urban Resort actually? To be honest, we're not sure. But if the Murano Urban Resort in Paris' hip Marais district is anything can go by, we know we like them.

What is an Urban Resort actually? To be honest, we’re not sure. But if the Murano Urban Resort in Paris’ hip Marais district is anything can go by, we know we like them. The hotel, created after the owners knocked together a run-down apartment house and an adjacent car-park, is almost frighteningly fashionable: whiter-than-white décor enlivened by the odd spot of Pop Art or blast of mood lighting. Murano glass is also a running design theme, hence the name. There’s a distinctly futuristic, ‘James Bond villain’ air to the place: each room is protected by a fingerprint scanner, so they’ll know it’s you if you spill anything on that pristine décor. There’s a stunning glass roof and it’s worth going in the lifts just to see them: they’re fitted out in pink fur (don’t get caught stroking them, that might damage your image). Should the super trendy atmosphere stress you out, there’s a spa on hand to help you unwind. Things are a little more relaxed in the bar area. The Murano boasts one of the biggest vodka bars in France, with a vast array of brands from all over the world, and a range of light and healthy snacks is on offer. Design-wise, colour plays a greater part in the overall look of the bar than elsewhere in the hotel, which helps in avoiding the chilly feel that characterizes some of the other public spaces (check out the padded, panelled leather walls). Live DJing every night energizes things further and unsurprisingly the place attracts a young, fashion-conscious crowd.
