Hotel Saint James

The Saint James Hotel, located on the site of the first ever hot-air balloon airfield, has a cultured, country estate-vibe which we like. This lavish boutique hotel occupies an 1892 neo-classical chateau surrounded by attractive gardens. It’s a handsome building, elegant, stately, with glorious public spaces including a stylish bar set in the library and decked out with some12,000 books. There are wood-panelled walls and even a spiral staircase to get a closer look at the books, not to mention a baby grand piano in the corner. Be sure to check out the garden with its hot air balloon canopies, it’s a truly distinctive and beautiful space in which to drink on a summer’s evening, surrounded by green it’s not like being in the city at all. You can sip a classic cocktail, or ask the barman for one of his secret signature drinks. A glass of fizz wouldn’t go amiss, not when drinking in these kind of surroundings.
