Run by two bartenders from the legendarily swank Hotel Crillon, this former nightspot of dubious repute in the 17eme has been given a makeover and turned into an exciting off-the-beaten- path cocktail bar. Don’t expect five star luxury, that’s not the point of this place; it’s not meant to be all gilt and shimmer, rather an accessible and way above average neighbourhood bar with an intimate, relaxed atmosphere. That’s not to say there’s not skill behind the bar; these guys clearly know what they’re doing. Their classic cocktails are on the nose and they have a solid range of signature creations, complex, aromatic and floral drinks – the kind of thing you linger over. The drinks list includes six different champagne cocktails as well as scattering of fruity mocktails. The bartenders are dapper and the room itself is handsome with an appealing retro American vibe to the décor and Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks on the wall, which seems somehow apt. Prices might be a little steep for the neighbourhood but they reflect the quality of what’s on offer. There’s a decent happy hour to keep things sweet and they serve a nice line in cheeses, charcuterie and small plates to go with your drink.
