The launch of the glorious, glamorous Peninsula Hotel in Paris was one of the biggest luxury hotel openings of the year. It’s an astonishingly sleek space, opulent, elegant and very, very Parisian. The top floor bar and restaurant, l’Oiseau Blanc is seriously stylish and boasts an aviation theme, design touches including old photos of the plane that mysteriously disappeared in 1927 – and from which the bar takes its name. Service is impeccable, but then it should be at these prices. Located on the sixth floor of the hotel, the bar boasts stunning views out over Paris’s most iconic monuments, as well as a retractable roof for those times when the weather misbehaves. The drinks are delicious things, the food beautifully presented and the whole thing exudes elegance and refinement (though, again, they make you pay for it).
