Le Plaza Athénée
May 11, 2018
Located right in the heart of Paris’ fashion and entertainment world, the Plaza has been seducing the well-heeled since 1911 and remains the place to flaunt whatever you have! You might enter it as the hippest thing on the planet but by the time you leave you could be ‘so yesterday’. In truth it combines all that is classically French in style with the very latest in hi-tech bar couture. But the marriage of old with new doesn’t hurt and, in fact, the finished result places the Plaza up and around top spot for cool drinking in Paris. With an interior designed by Patrick Jouin, it offers sculpted glass bar with lots of high stool seating, or you can stylishly recline on the low leather couches while you sip something delicious from the innovative cocktail menu. This offers a sly twist on the classics (we’d order the apple martini ice, which comes with its own submerged ice lolly or, because black never goes out of style, darling, there’s a whole range of dark drinks, including a black mojito or black rose Royale). Obviously, given the clientele, there’s an extensive range of champagnes on offer, too, and bar snacks are strictly on the classy side think caviar or salmon blinis. Obviously it’s expensive – anything worth its salt in Paris has to be – but if you want to show off the collections you’ve just bought this is the place, be it at the coolly lit bar or at one of the more snug and secretive tables. There’s also music from 11pm from Thursday through Saturday, where DJs entertain the beautiful people into the early hours.
