Le Mathis, the handsome and elegant bar hidden behind a discrete door right next the entrance of the Hotel Mathis Elyssees Matignon, is a gorgeous space, a favourite of the city’s elite. Beautifully designed and boudoir-like, it’s all you could want from a hotel bar and by night it becomes one the hottest spot in town. The drinks are superb and well-made, though priced accordingly, and the place exudes all the Parisian ambience you could want, the whole place seriously sleek and incredibly exclusive. Gaining entry can be a bit of a task. It’s not the kind of place you can just rock up to. It attracts a crowd of celebrities and intellectuals, but is not as pretentious or self-consciously hip as that might suggest. In fact, it’s grounded atmosphere is a big part of appeal. Glam as the clientele is this is not a fashion palace, rather something more timeless.
