UC-61 is the new venue by the guys behind la Conserverie. Housed in the former Le 25eme Heure, this tiny bar boasts a slightly quirky German submarine theme various nautical bits and pieces, even a ‘captain’s quarters.’ It’s an easy place to miss. Hidden away on a quiet street with virtually no external signage and a buzzer you’ll need to ring to gain entry, you could walk right past it. But that would be a mistake. It’s a hip yet relaxed place with some great cocktails, care of bartender Anaïs Teulier. La Vie en Deux, is a potent mix of whisky, sherry, and maple syrup, a grown up drink with a seductive edge. The prices are on the high side but they’re reflected in the quality and the bar attracts a slightly more savvy and sophisticated, people who know their cocktails and value good service. The atmosphere reflects this, convivial yet elegant, the kind of place you can have a conversation while savouring your drinks and these are drinks to savour.
