This new addition to Oberkampf, an area already bristling with exciting, stylish bars, le Perchoir which translates as ‘the roost’ is a vibrant seventh floor rooftop space which boasts a superb view of the bustling city below. The place has already begun to attract a hip, young crowd and it’s easy to see why. It’s an attractive space, with cushion-strewn benches surrounding a freestanding bar, a canopy to protect you from the elements, even a splash of greenery care of the herb garden – intended to supply the kitchen below – and pots of lavender and grapevines. There’s a cocktail menu which features a small array of house creations and a decent wine list. Prices are on the steep side but you’re paying for the view as much as anything else the seventh floor is pretty high up for Paris. Downstairs there’s a smart restaurant, a former industrial space softened by North African decorative touches: bright tiled floors and colourful tapestry chairs. Food is inventive, the menu rotating on a daily basis and showcasing creative French dishes given a contemporary twist. The bar has a more laid back vibe than some of the city’s super glam rooftop spots, something reflected in its popularity. It can be difficult to get in, particularly on weekends, so the best bet is to go early or reserve a table in the restaurant just to be sure.
