Now under new management, having been shuttered for a number of years, the American diner themed Le Depanneur has become something of a hot spot. With help from the folks behind one of Paris’ most popular food trucks, Cantine California, le Depanneur located a short hop from the Moulin Rouge in Pigalle – has been given a makeover. The chrome-fronted space is light and bright with big windows, green leather booth seating and an abundance of warm wood. The effect as a whole is very Californian and contemporary. Squat cacti top the tables and the sidings are made from reclaimed timber. There’s spacious bar in the back room and a lounge upstairs where they serve craft cocktails try the Alta Vista Tomy, a refreshing and peppy mix of housemade piment d’Espelette syrup, tequila, mezcal, lime juice, fresh cucumber, and Aperol. American beer and a range of tequilas which can be ordered by the shot, glass or bottle. Food-wise we’re talking tacos, burgers, and superior milkshakes (and cake, they do good cake). Their grilled cheese sandwich is a must-try. A cool musical soundtrack of jazz, blues and folk plays in the background and the sidewalk terrace is popular with good reason.
