Tucked away behind Montmartre hill, luxurious Particulier Montmartre hotel is a glorious, opulent space with a bar which has rapidly become a favourite with smart Parisians. It’s something of a secret space, visitors have to negotiate a private-access street and a series of intercoms, but something beautiful awaits those who persevere. Designed by Louis Benech, the hotel garden is fabulous and forest-like with wild ferns and ivy. This a properly smart hotel and this reflected in the efficiency of the service and in the clientele, both hip and young, and older and moneyed. The hotel building itself is quite something, with an intimate lounge and sun room in which afternoon, cocktails are served. Drinks are well-made, full of fresh ingredients. The Laura Palmer is a case in point, a blend of Americano Cocchi, Mastica, absinthe, lime juice, white sugar, and sage – it’s herbal and complex. The space is such it’s not like being in Paris at all, not any city in fact, but that’s part of its considerable appeal. It all comes at a price of course, but it’s more than worth it.
