What at first looks like your quintessential Paris cafe bar is in fact something a little bit more special when you take a closer look; located in an area not over-blessed with exciting night spots, L’éclair boasts an intriguing and well thought out cocktail list in addition to its café staples. The custom cocktail list, designed for you to ‘relax and enjoy’ (why, thank you, we will) is made up of a dozen or so speciality drinks, which are fresh and easy-drinking rather than potent and heady. If you really want to splash out, the Green Beast in a Cage a theatrical absinthe cocktail designed for sharing is the way to go. Order with a group of friends and let the green fairy do her wicked thing. Another sharing option is the Kentucky Lemonade, a refreshing drink with a hidden kick which is served in a pitcher with individual tin cups. While not the height of sophistication, these are fun, playful drinks designed to make a night out memorable. The café itself is attractive, a fairy-lit and atmospheric space, and it also serves all the expected tipples and a decent selection of wines and aperitifs if you want a more conventional evening of Parisian sipping and sitting.
