The Watering Hole
May 11, 2018
Situated in the middle of one of the best stretches of beach in Cornwall, The Watering Hole is the UK’s only true beach bar and of this fact they are intensely proud. What originated as a lowly shack selling ice cream in the 1970s has evolved into an impressive bar and restaurant with stunning sea views which offers a place of respite for tourists, locals and surfers alike. The drinks menu at The Watering Hole runs the gamut from premium ciders to locally-brewed real ales (Cornwall’s St Austell Brewery makes a constant appearance), with a focus on quality beer and lager. Wines and spirits can also be found, both of which are best enjoyed during a sunny spell on one of the wooden tables out on the sand. But don’t be put off by the harsher winter weather – the bar is equally as appealing, stoking up a roaring open fire and doling out hot chocolate by the mugful. A hearty menu of local and international flavours is served up for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the grilled fresh local sardines and the crayfish and crab deli roll the obvious winners in such a seaside location. The Watering Hole also plays host to a full calendar of events and live music throughout the year, ensuring that it isn’t just the fabulous sea views that are sure to keep you entertained.
