Burger and bar joint with large outdoor terrace, Mechanic’s Institute is a popular place to hangout, drink creative cocktails or sample the long wine list.

Don’t let the name and the slightly masculine interior fool you (the warm grey and wood interior palette, along with mounted deer head) – Mechanic’s Institute is a lively, welcoming burger-and-cocktail joint in Perth’s Northbridge neighbourhood. And besides, as cool as the velvet couches inside may be (and they certainly look inviting), the four-tier outdoor terrace is where it’s at, particularly in the summer months.
Mechanic’s Institute is proud to stock a huge array of craft spirits, beers and ciders, all deftly doled out by the willing and able bar staff. Their inventive cocktail list changes daily (yes, daily), so you’ll never be bored with the same old concoctions, however some of their specials have become so famous in these parts that they’ve become regular fixtures (we’re talking about Hillbilly Bob’s Ruckus Juice – a shandy-style drink muddled with rum, fresh lime, spiced syrup, beer and ginger beer). The bartenders at Mechanic’s Institute are also adept at whipping up some cool classics (margaritas, negronis, et al), along with some seasonal specials to warm the cockles, like a hot buttered rum. Despite this great selection of cocktails, the bar’s speciality is actually wine, with an impressive list and in-depth knowledge behind each bottle. And if all this drink-decision-making works up an appetite, Mechanic’s Institute serves burgers and chips from local burger joint Flipside to accompany their libations.
