The Spaniard is a tapas restaurant and wine bar that specializes in Spanish cuisine, homemade sangria and classic cocktails.

Split over two levels in the heart of Perth (you can easily admire some of the local street art from the windows), The Spaniard offers a slice of Spanish life, packaged up inside a sleek and trendy resto-bar. Although the interior screams ‘Australia’ more than ‘Andalucia’ – the bar is filled with sleek wooden high-tops, funky lighting and modern geometric patterns – the food and drink steps up to the plate, quite literally, with fresh tastes of the Mediterranean. The food at The Spaniard is heavy on seafood and aged hams, but if you’re visiting as a couple then one of the paellas is a must. Fridays and Saturdays are a little more indulgent, with fresh oysters on offer that are perfectly washed down with a glass of Spanish cava. The rest of the wine list is equally-as-impressive, and equally-as-Spanish, offering everything from sultry riojas to fruity whites, while The Spaniard’s homemade sangria (both white and red), is a heady yet refreshing mix of wine, cognac, vodka, liqueurs, fruit and juices. The small cocktail list contorts the flavors of the classics – a breakfast martini made with marmalade and a negroni with a Spanish sherry, for example – but there are a couple of contemporary concoctions like the Jack Mauve (apple brandy, lime and homemade pomegranate liqueur). Beers are an international group, with those on draught being almost exclusively Spanish, served alongside a quality collection of Spanish cider. Credit Photo:
