This compact bar sits adjacent to proprietor Jose Garces’ main joint Tinto and boasts a cocktail list that harks back to, as so many do, the Prohibition era. The Philadelphia Fish House Punch is a winning mixture of peach brandy, dark rum, cognac, tea and lemon juice. While the Ginger Rogers mixes gin, ginger, lemon and pink fizz. Unsurprisingly, given the name, they also stock a vast range of whiskeys, bourbons and ryes, and there’s a decent wine list too. Garces involvement ensures the food is inventive and seriously tasty (their house-made pickles and duck fat fries are seriously, seriously good) but the stark, white-tiled interior can play havoc with the acoustics at busy times. Still you have to admire any place that lists Kentucky Fried Quail on its menu.
