The idea of a vegan restaurant might not appeal to everyone but Rich Landau is a great chef, full stop. Vedge serves adventurous, inventive food that will appeal to all but the most hardened carnivore. It’s all incredibly fresh, vibrant and exciting, not to mention healthy (well, possibly not the salted white chocolate cheesecake and, yes, apparently it is possible for a cheesecake to be vegan). Every dish is beautifully presented and a similar level of thought and care has gone into the concise but stylish cocktail list: their Kyoto Sour blends sake with grapefruit, cucumber, agave and lemon juice. The building itself (formerly Deux Cheminées) is an attractive, complete with fireplaces, chandeliers and wainscoting; a series of connecting parlours, elegantly decorated. The daily ‘dirt list’ showcases the freshest produce.
