Located inside the historic Luhrs Building, the 10-storey brick and stone structure that was Phoenix’s first-ever high rise (not to mention the former prohibition headquarters of Arizona), Bitter and Twisted serves superior drinks in stylish surroundings. The room is light and airy with Chesterfield sofas on which to perch. This is a world-class cocktail lounge and easily one of the best in the city; drinks are made using premium spirits, the freshest of fruits, herbs and the best bitters and tonics. The cocktails list includes a number of elegantly presented classics, including a kick-ass Martini and a potent Old Fashioned. Care and attention has gone into all the detail, including the ice and the glassware. There’s also a strong list of craft beer and wine to choose from. From the food menu, their chicken katsu ramen if off-the-page amazing, as is their Duke of Earl burger (a beast of a dish featuring a ‘bun’ made of fried slices of their green chilli mac’n’cheese and their bourbon cupcakes are worth a visit alone.
