Tongkah Tin Syndicate

A far cry from the traditional image of a Thai resort, Indigo Pearl is built on the site of a former tin mine. The family of Wichit Na‐Ranong, who owns Indigo Pearl, made their fortune through tin mining and he’s used their history as inspiration, paying homage to the industry that was once central to Phuket’s trade and commerce. The result is a design that oozes industrial chic, incorporating chrome, slate and tin with exotic shrubbery. The resort’s spacious bar and snooker hall, Tongkah Tin Syndicate, draws even further on Phuket’s mining history to create a unique space. Tongkah was the original name for Phuket and the bar displays Na‐Ranong’s fascinating collection of tin mining memorabilia on its walls and ceilings. Snooker tables and TVs tuned to sport provide the entertainment, while huge custom‐made punkah fans whir overhead to keep guests cool. But for hardened drinkers the real draw here is the whiskey, which the bar specialises in, with a menu featuring some of the finest and rarest from around the world. Other spirits, cocktails and beer are also available, alongside a food menu of the chicken wings and burgers variety. On Saturdays and Sundays there’s a happy hour from 6‐7pm.
