Bacchus Bar
Portland Oregon-City-Center
May 11, 2018
In the lobby of Portland’s recently updated Hotel Vintage, the Bacchus Bar stands as a modern tribute to Bacchus, the god of wine and merriment. The stylish throwback decor of the hotel may not quite take you all the way back to the ancient times of Bacchus, but Hotel Vintage definitely sets a chic retro tone as soon as you slide past its front doors. Once inside Bacchus – which lies right off the lobby – you have the chance to seductively sip classic cocktails and Oregon’s famous craft beers and wines (think plenty of IPAs and refreshing whites) in a nostalgic yet comfy setting. As you would expect, Bacchus Bar takes cocktails seriously, with classics like the Pear Sidecar – a devilish mix of pear brandy, lemon, dry curacao – and the Port Old Fashioned – a blend of premium Kentucky bourbon, 10 year port wine, sugar, and bitters – being two of the creative favourites. Bacchus Bar also likes to showcase seasonal fun offerings like a Tiki Times menu during the summer.A fun touch to the proceedings is an entire second floor dedicated to retro lounge games like Shuffleboard and Atari and most fun of all: a full sized Plinko – yes, that Plinko from The Price Is Right. If you work up an appetite on the games, food is tastily provided by the in-hotel Pazzo restaurant, with grilled shrimp and polenta and the decadent Bacchus Bar Burger being two of the highlights.
