There’s something of an Amsterdam vibe to the Sapphire Hotel. Maybe it’s the plush red interior or the fact that the building was, in the murky past, once used as a brothel; maybe it’s the lighting, kept seductively low. Taken together the place feels exciting, sexy and ever so slightly illicit, in a good way. It helps that the quality of the drinks is high. These are some good cocktails. Their signature, hotel-themed concoctions are inventive, creatively playing with flavours drinks like The Lounge Singer which blends fig infused bourbon with rhubarb bitters to create something complex and memorable. Inside the good-sized room Asian-style artwork and glittering candles add to the pervading air of the exotic. There’s a well chosen wine list and some excellent bar snacks as well as more substantial eatables.
