If you appreciate a decent cocktail, if you regard the mixing of drinks as something of an art, than Portland’s Teardrop Lounge needs to be on your radar. The city has a blossoming cocktail scene and the Teardrop sits at the heart of it. A circular bar dominates the room and reminds you that the drinks are the thing here. Unusual and house-made ingredients are the order of the day and things like artichoke bitters and fresh gooseberries regularly crop up on the menu. Inside the room is relatively airy with a few comfy booths and there is a patio area for warmer weather. The chief focus is, of course, on the drinks. Sit at the bar to really appreciate the bar tenders’ skill. Their original drinks are inspired and memorable (like the Little Cloud, which mixes elderberries, peach bitters, gin and lime) and their take on the classics is equally impressive, layered and complex in flavour, drinks to take your time over.
