Jazz & Blues
Hot Five Jazz and Blues Club
May 11, 2018
One of the hottest spots in all of Porto to listen to live music, Hotfive stands as a shrine to jazz, blues, and the fine art of having a fun time out.
Hotfive was designed with music in mind from the start, as the venue features an elevated stage, round tables with dim candles, iron chairs reminiscent of Jazz Age nightclubs, and black-and-white photos on the wall of musical masters. Above the mostly-red room lies the mezzanine, which comes in handy for both enjoying a bird’s eye view of the performances and relishing fantastic acoustics.
While the concert club is only open Wednesday to Saturday, it packs quite a punch into those four nights. Wednesdays are often the busiest night of the week as Hotfive hosts jam sessions, and some of the regular attendees to the improvisational party have gained quite a following in Porto. The weekends are the time for scheduled concerts, and while jazz and blues are certainly the bulk of the sounds heard at Hotfive, all genres of music under the sun are welcome, recently including Bon Jovi and Abba cover bands. The bar is located at the back of the performance room, and does a fantastic job of mixing cocktails and pouring beer and wine for a crowd that is typically floating on cloud nine from the tunes.
