Tiles Champagne & Gin Club
May 11, 2018
For decades, Porto residents who passed along regal Rua José Falcão, would stop and admire the facade of one of the city’s most beautiful and historic buildings at address 199. Now the neo-Arab beauty with the horseshoe-shaped windows and wrought-iron gates and balconies is finally home to a place worthy of its character and a space that implores you come inside and enjoy a drink: the Tiles Champagne and Gin Club. With the help of famed architect Louis Garrett, Tiles has breathed exciting new life into this monumental building that was built at the turn of the 20th Century, doing their best along the way to keep the architectural gems that make the building so special in tact.
Taking its name from gorgeous tiles that line the walls inside and outside the venue, Tiles impresses you from the outset with its grandeur but then keeps you engaged with the exceptional range of gin and champagnes. Bubbles from France and the rest of the wine-producing world are on the cocktail card and the gins read like a who’s who of the finest craft and classic producers. The three entrepreneurs who brought this space to life aimed to make an elegant bar that was in-keeping with the spirit of the building, and anyone who visits will no doubt leave convinced and thank them for finally offering a reason to stop and come inside.
