TÝNSKA Bar And Books
May 11, 2018
Prague’s Bar and Books is part of small transatlantic chain. With four sister venues in New York as well as another in Prague’s Mánesova area, it’s a hip franchise with an air of exclusivity. Located not far from the Old Town Square, in a small street tucked behind the Tyn church, the discreet library-themed lounge bar exudes urban chic. A hostess greets you when you enter and complementary bar nibbles appear on your table. Bar tenders are dapper in their attire, service is smooth as they come and the décor is handsome, all crimson leather banquettes and dark wood panelling, the walls lined in hard-bound books hence the name. A sophisticated soundtrack plays in the background and the lights are kept dramatically low, shrouding everything in shadow. The drinks here are some of the best in Prague though it’s worth noting that the prices also match those of London and New York bars. At least your money will be well spent as their drinks are beautifully crafted things their Midnight Espresso is the idea post-prandial tipple, a creamy mix of Amaretto, raspberry and a potent double hit of caffeine. Bar and Books also stocks a wide range of international wines, and one of the most extensive whiskey lists in central Europe much to the delight of the bar’s very expat-heavy clientele. If you’re a smoker you might want to check out the wide array of cigars which are also available courtesy of the Monkey Tobacco Shop next door.
