Flecked with blue and green, delicate, charming and faintly retro, Batinse is nothing if not easy on the eye. It’s a properly pretty place, eschewing the over-familiar industrial urban aesthetic for something softer and more playful. This local bar and restaurant serves an abundance of tasty things. Some of these things are in liquid form. Cocktails include the Maryline, which blends Absolut Mandrin with peach Schnapps, the Therese, a potent mix of vodka, tequila, triple sec, rum, lime juice and cola, and the Grosse Rita, sweet-sharp blend of tequila, triple sec, Chambord, lime pressée, and rhubarb. The Theodore, a mix of Grand Marnier, amaretto and chi tea also ticks all our boxes. The food menu that accompanies the drinks list is equally creative, full of appealing dishes includes the heavenly sounding two duck burger, braise pig’s trotters (with yet more duck), a knock-out lobster roll, a vibrant prawn and chorizo salad, and beignets, those savoury doughnuts of the gods.
