Billing itself as “Food. Bar. Boutique”, you could be forgiven for scratching your head at the first mention of Deux 22. And when you find out that the fare and cocktails on offer are of a Mexican persuasion, your level of confoundedness may inevitably increase. Rest assured though, everything is deliciously under control at Deux 22, a space that is bringing something truly unique to Quebec. Walking in to Deux 22 is an experience like no other, as to your left fashionable apparel dominates the wall, and to your right (where you would expect to see cash registers), there’s a bar. Yes, it may take a minute to get used to the sight, but once you do, you’ll want to do much more than “just look” at the cocktails and food on offer. Both are inspired by the scintillating flavors of Mexico, with the food being a spicy tour de force of burritos, tacos, nachos, and quesadillas. All the fiery flavors pair perfectly with ice cold beer, and Deux 22 has around a dozen craft varieties on draught. Our favorite tipples here though are the cocktails, a set that Deux 22 has engineered to taste just like they do in Mexico: simple and delicious. Margaritas are made of only tequila, lime, and agave syrup, while the morning favorite Michelada is composed of blonde beer, hot sauce, and spicy salt for the rim. A whole host of mezcals and tequilas are also stocked, and go perfectly with the terrace, which is already regarded as one of the finest in the city.
