An iconic bar on the San Antonio Riverwalk, Esquire Tavern overflows with character and history while making some of the finest cocktails in all of Texas.

Opened in 1933 in order to toast the end of Prohibition, San Antonio’s Esquire tavern has been hosting rollicking good times ever since.

Situated directly on the world famous San Antonio Riverwalk, The Esquire Tavern is as authentic a slice of this city as you are ever going to find. Said to be the oldest bar in town, from its earliest days The Esquire gained a reputation for always being filled with a colorful cross-section of the population. Nothing has changed today, as all members of San Antonio’s population – from scoundrels to society darlings – belly-up to the iconic centerpiece 100-foot long bar (the longest in the state of Texas) on a nightly basis. The weathered and character-filled bar is surrounded by saloon-style leather chairs and bold vintage wallpaper while being cooled off by antique low-hanging ceiling fans. Yes, it all takes you back decades, but you are snapped back to the present with cocktails at the top of their modern mixology game.

A couple of our favorites are the Texas is the Reason (bonded corn whiskey, local Texas scrub-smoked whiskey, Italian liqueur, grapefruit, and honey) and the En Pointe (premium gin, lemongrass, lime, and cilantro-wormwood bitters). Add in a quality collection of classic cocktails, craft beer, and wine, and you’ve found our happy place in San Antonio – especially during their award-winning happy hour.
