There's so much to like about this place. The combination of dizzyingly fresh seafood with properly inventive cocktails really floats our boat and we like the renovated warehouse space with its quirky, nautical design. The interior of Ironside is all cool blue and navy tiles; it's an airy and light in which to dine and, crucially, they know how to make a cocktail. Thanks to Leigh Lacap the bar offers some 50-plus cocktails as well as oyster shooter—single raw oysters served with Champagne cocktails, of which there are over 10 to choose from. The Swiss Pile Driver is a typically complex drink, blending gin, Cynar, grapefruit, and orange cordial. From the food menu, the lobster roll is a top example of its kind, rich and heaped with fresh lobster meat and brown butter mayo. The house fish and chips is another treat, served simply with a wedge of lemon and tartare sauce. The cornmeal crusted soft shell crab, chowder fries and grilled king salmon are all worthy of praise. Desserts are no less exciting and they have a solid wine list too.
