One of several 'hidden' speakeasy-style bars in San Diego, Prohibition isn't that easy to find - the basement space is only accessible via a door masquerading as a law office, but it's worth playing detective. You used to have to book online to ensure a table here, but they now have a more egalitarian process, first come, first served. If you can snare a table, you'll find yourself in a gorgeous, crimson space, with a 1930s vibe. The room is all bare brickwork, brown leather, flickering candles, chequerboard floor tiles and a plush red velvet bar. The cocktails are impeccably crafted and they often play host to live music and other entertainments, adding to the not inconsiderable atmosphere of the place. There's a clandestine, thrilling air to the place which is hugely appealing and it attracts a hip, mixed crowd as a result.
