San Francisco-Dubace Triangle
- Night Out
May 11, 2018
Located in the heart of San Francisco’s famous Castro District, Blackbird’s fantastic libations and authentic neighbourhood bar atmosphere makes it one of the most special venues in the entire city. While Blackbird is certainly a laid back and friendly place, that doesn’t mean it is without a sense of style, as the venue oozes a retro cool ‘Twin Peaks’ vibe from the moment you spot the Western facade out front. Once inside, you are met with plenty more wood panels on the walls and ceiling, juxtaposed brilliantly by slick cherry red booths and a rotating collection of colourful local art work. The actual bar itself is made of dark wood, and looks like it would be right at home in an Old West saloon, and for further vintage appeal, old newspaper prints and even a large copper-belted wooden barrel make an appearance.
Blackbird welcomes all in this famously open-minded neighbourhood and treats all to a rotating selection of cocktails (both creative and classic), craft beer, and wine. Blackbird is big on seasonality, but regardless of what the calendar page reads, you’ll be treated to a mix made-to-order with love, with some featured on draught and still others carrying the flavours of house barrel-aging. Recent examples include The Nightshade – singani, tomato-infused Italian aperitif, pamplemousse rose, cinnamon, and sauvignon blanc – and a refreshing British-inspired summer cup on draught. Craft beer and wine is given similar attention, as Blackbird collects some of the finest names and labels in America – and the world – on one seriously fun list.
